Frequently Asked Questions
1. What conditions do you treat?
We evaluate and treat a wide range of musculoskeletal conditions, including injuries and arthritis of the shoulder, elbow, wrist, hand, hip, knee, ankle, and foot, as well as spine-related pain. We also care for sports injuries, fractures, tendon and ligament tears, and joint replacement needs.
Do I need a referral to see an orthopedic specialist?
Many patients can schedule directly without a referral. However, some insurance plans — especially HMOs — require a referral from your primary care provider. If you’re unsure, check with your insurance company or our office before scheduling.
What should I bring to my appointment?
Please bring:
- A photo ID and insurance card
- Any imaging studies (X-rays, MRI, CT scans) on CD or film
- A list of current medications and allergies
- Any medical records related to your injury or condition
Do you take my insurance?
We accept most major insurance plans, including Medicare and Medicaid. To confirm coverage, call our office or check our insurance partners list. We also offer self-pay options.
How soon can I get an appointment?
We strive to offer same-week appointments, and urgent injuries are prioritized. In many cases, we can see acute injuries the same or next business day.
Do you offer same-day X-rays or MRIs?
Yes. We have on-site digital X-ray capabilities at some locations. If an MRI or CT scan is needed, we can coordinate expedited scheduling with trusted local imaging centers.
What is the difference between a sports medicine specialist and a general orthopedic surgeon?
A sports medicine orthopedic surgeon is fellowship-trained to treat injuries in athletes and active individuals — both surgically and non-surgically. While all orthopedic surgeons can treat bones and joints, sports medicine specialists often focus on minimally invasive techniques, ligament reconstructions, and return-to-play protocols.
What non-surgical treatments are available?
Many conditions can be managed without surgery. Options include physical therapy, bracing, injections (corticosteroid, PRP, hyaluronic acid), and activity modification. Our goal is always to exhaust non-surgical options when appropriate.
If I need surgery, where will it be performed?
We perform surgeries at local accredited hospitals and outpatient surgery centers, depending on the procedure, your insurance, and your medical needs. We will discuss the best setting for you during your consultation.
How long will it take to recover from my injury or surgery?
Recovery times vary depending on your injury, the type of treatment, and your overall health. Minor injuries may heal in a few weeks, while joint replacements or ligament reconstructions may require several months of rehabilitation. We will give you a personalized recovery plan and timeline.
