Knee Arthroscopy at Elite Ortho helps you recover faster, with less pain and better outcomes.

What Is Knee Arthroscopy?

knee

Knee arthroscopy is a minimally invasive surgical procedure that uses a small camera (arthroscope) and specialized instruments to diagnose and treat conditions inside the knee joint. Performed through tiny incisions, this approach allows for faster healing, less scarring, and less postoperative pain compared to traditional open surgery.

At Elite Ortho, knee arthroscopy is commonly used to:

  • Remove or repair torn meniscal cartilage
  • Reconstruct torn ligaments (including the ACL)
  • Remove loose bone or cartilage fragments
  • Treat inflamed synovial tissue

This outpatient procedure allows most patients to return home the same day and begin their recovery with minimal disruption to daily life.

Expectations Pre, Post, and During The Surgery.

Before Surgery

Your care team will guide you through a simple pre-op process to get medical clearance from your primary care provider before your knee arthroscopy. This may involve:

  • Blood tests.
  • Electrocardiogram (EKG).
  • Chest X-ray.
  • Other screenings as needed.

After you schedule your surgery, the surgical center will call you with instructions including.

  • Arrival time and location.
  • When to stop eating or drinking.
  • What to bring on the day of surgery.

You will be able to ask any questions to prepare yourself for the procedure.

The Day of Surgery

The anesthesia team will review your options when you arrive. Most people will get general anesthesia and a nerve block in the knee and leg. This is very helpful for pain after surgery.

Once in the operating room:

  • Your leg will be sterilized and draped to provide a sterile surgical field.
  • A tiny camera will be put into your knee joint so that images may be shown live.
  • To help keep the field clear and reduce bleeding, fluid is injected into the joint.
  • Through 1–3 other small incisions instruments will be used to.
  • Trim or repair torn cartilage.
  • Remove bone fragments or inflamed tissue.
  • Anchor sutures and reconstruct ligaments as needed.

Once done, we stitch the incisions and place a soft dressing over it.

After Surgery

For 1 to 2 hours, you’ll rest in the recovery room, while nurses routinely check your responsiveness and pain management. You can go back home on the same day. By that, we mean that you will have to have someone to drive you back home and help you on the first night there.

  • Post-op tips.
  • Expect mild to moderate discomfort for a few days.
  • Use ice as instructed to manage swelling.
  • Elevate the knee and follow the guidelines given for dressing care.
  • Pain medication will be provided as needed.

Your Path Back to Strength and Motion

Recovery times change depending on what is done, but most patients begin to regain mobility within weeks after the surgery. It may take several months for an individual to fully recover and return to their sport or other demanding activities.

After surgery, the healing process begins and physical therapy is an important part of it. Your rehab plan will focus on.

  • Reducing swelling and stiffness.
  • Restoring range of motion.
  • Rebuilding strength in the knee and leg muscles.

Your recovery will be monitored by your surgeon and therapy team to ensure you are recovering safely and effectively.
